Endorsements, degrees, or designations can only be added to a valid certificate. Verify your certificate is valid (not expired) before requesting an add-on. Consult with your Louisiana employing school system to make the certificate valid again before submitting any application for an add-on endorsement if the certificate has expired or is nearing expiration.
Endorsement Areas - Add or Evaluate
Endorsements can only be added to a valid standard professional teaching certificate - Out-of-State (OS), Level 1/2/3, or Type A/B/C.
To request an add-on or evaluation, please complete the Certification Add-on or Evaluation application in the Louisiana Educator Portal. The area requested to be added must be indicated in the Add or Evaluate a Certification Area section of the application. Additional supporting documents required with the application are:
- A copy of your Social Security Card and Driver’s License / state ID
- If experience is one of the requirements for the area requested - In-State Experience Verification form and/or Out-of-State Experience Verification Attestation form. If Louisiana experience is used to meet a requirement, the request must be routed to the employing/verifying HR office for additional verification.
- Official transcripts not already on file with our office from previous applications. Official transcripts should be mailed or emailed directly to you or your employing school system and will be considered official when scanned and/or uploaded to online certification application. The Certification Office does not accept transcripts sent directly via email or paper mail.
- Completed self-evaluation add-on checklist indicating requirements have been reviewed, noting course prefix and number for completed coursework. See the How do I complete a self-evaluation for adding an endorsement or requesting an evaluation? article for more information on requesting an add-on or evaluation.
- A processing fee will be required. The amount due will be calculated automatically based on the request(s) made on the application.
Adding a Designation
Designations may be added to a standard professional teaching certificate to recognize additional work completed, such as additional coursework, fellowships, department initiatives, or other professional learning approved by LDOE. Some examples are SPED Fellow Academy, Aspiring Principal, or NISL completion. Only programs approved by the LDOE may be added.
The Certification Add-on or Evaluation application in the Louisiana Educator Portal may be used to request the addition of a designation by selecting the designation in the Add a Designation section of the application.
- Include the completion certificate for the approved additional learning with the application.
- A self-evaluation checklist is not required or available for designations.
Adding a Degree or Master's Plus 30 Graduate Hours
A degree or Master's Plus 30 Graduate Hours can be added to most valid certificate types using the Certification Add-on or Evaluation application in the Louisiana Educator Portal by indicating the degree requested in the Add a Degree or Masters Plus 30 section.
