Information on the pathways to Educational Leader (EDL) certification or eligibility can be found in the Educational Leader Information document. A request for EDL certification or eligibility is made using the application appropriate to the qualifying pathway in the Louisiana Educator Portal.
The first requirement is to hold or be eligible to hold a Louisiana Level 2 or higher teaching certificate. If you are not already a certified teacher in Louisiana, you will need to include additional verification of teaching certification and experience with the appropriate EDL application. The following additional documents will be required:
- A copy of your out-of-state teaching certificate
- Official transcripts for all degrees earned (undergraduate included) - Official transcripts should be mailed or emailed directly to you and will be considered official when scanned and/or uploaded to the online certification portal with your certification application packet. The Certification Office does not accept transcripts sent directly via email or paper mail.
- A completed Out-of-State Teacher Preparation and Certification Status Form confirming your teacher preparation
- Completed Out-of-State Experience Verification Attestation Form(s) confirming your teaching experience and successfulness.
Each form includes instructions on who must complete the verification. Be sure you have these documents and completed forms available before completing an Educational Leader application.
The additional documentation is provided in the EDL application by adding out-of-state verification. An additional fee is required and will be added to the total due at Check Out:
- Once you have started the appropriate application, select the Options and Add-ons menu item on the left side of the page.
- Add the EDL1: Out-of-State Teacher Preparation option to this application.
- Add the EDL1: Out-of-State Teaching Experience option to this application.
- Return to the Applicant Section on the left side of your screen to complete all application forms, including the Out-of-State verifications needed.
Please also note, if you are not employed as a leader in Louisiana, a certificate is not issued. If qualified, our office would issue an eligibility letter indicating that the certificate could be issued should you be employed as a leader in Louisiana.
