Endorsement areas can only be added to a VALID Out-of-State (OS), Level 1/2/3, or Type A/B/C standard professional teaching certificate. Verify your certificate is valid (not expired) on TeachLouisiana.net using Verify a Certificate or Teaching Authorization before requesting an add-on endorsement. If the certificate has expired or is nearing expiration, consult with your Louisiana employing school system to make the certificate valid before submitting a request to add an endorsement.
Transcript evaluations may be completed with or without a valid certificate. If the certificate is not valid, the evaluation will be returned with any certificate requirement indicated as 'No.'
Some endorsements require a specific Type or Level of certification, or that another endorsement is already present on the certificate. Please review add-on requirements carefully.
Self-Evaluation
Locate the self-evaluation for the area you would like to add or evaluate using the link below to determine if you have met all requirements.
» Add-on Endorsement Self-Evaluations «
Self-evaluations are listed by the name of the endorsement area. Where there are multiple self-evaluations for the area listed, select the version that indicates adding to the type of certificate you hold.
Specifically, locate the option that shows "The area I want to Add" -to- "The certificate I already hold." For instance, if you hold a Middle School English 4-8 certificate and wish to add Mild/Moderate 1-5, you would select the self-evaluation labeled "Mild/Moderate 1-5 to Middle School Certificate."
A completed self-evaluation is required with all requests to add an endorsement or evaluate transcripts for completed coursework to fulfill endorsement requirements.
- Complete the self-evaluation to the best of your ability.
- Indicate 'Yes' or 'No' for each requirement listed.
- Note course code and number for the course you believe meets each coursework requirement. The Certification team will review all courses on all transcripts provided and on file; however, listing the courses you feel meet the requirements will ensure the specialist reviewing your request specifically considers the course indicated.
- All coursework must be reflected with the number of hours earned on official transcripts with a grade of C or better to be used for certification purposes.
- If coursework was completed with an institution outside of Louisiana, official course descriptions on institution letterhead or from the course catalog should be included with the application.
- Praxis scores reported to the LDOE directly from ETS will be considered when reviewing the request.
- If you are uncertain if scores were reported to the LDOE, or if you did not report your full social security number when taking the exam, official score reports should be included with the application.
- Previously adopted Praxis exams for the requested area may be accepted if passed during the adoption period. See the Louisiana's PRAXIS Score Requirements reference for previously adopted exams and effective dates.
- Only the requirements listed on the self-evaluation may be accepted for certification. The Certification office cannot substitute:
- Experience for coursework unless indicated on the self-evaluation (for example - a practicum/internship OR a specified amount of experience)
- Coursework for experience unless indicated on the self-evaluation
- Coursework for an exam unless indicated on the self-evaluation (for example - a content exam OR a specified number of coursework hours)
- Any exam for coursework unless indicate on the self-evaluation
- Exams completed in another state that have not been adopted in Louisiana
- Any other reading exam or coursework where Teaching of Reading: Elementary (5205) or Teaching of Reading: Elementary Subtest (7002) are indicated
- Undergraduate coursework where graduate level coursework is indicated
- Any other Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) exam where a specific PLT is indicated
- Any other substitution outside of those indicated on the self-evaluation with an 'OR'
