To receive a Level 2 certificate, an educator must successfully meet the standards of effectiveness for three (3) years as reflected on approved evaluation and accrue three (3) years of teaching experience in an approved educational setting. A Level 2 is valid for five (5) years.
To receive a Level 3 certificate, an educator must hold a graduate degree from an institution accredited in accordance with 34 CFR 602, successfully meet the standards of effectiveness for three (3) years as reflected on approved evaluation, and accrue five (5) years of teaching experience in an approved educational setting. A Level 3 is also valid for five (5) years.
Please consult with your HR office or administration to determine if you may qualify for the Level 2 or Level 3 certificate. A request for a higher certificate is made using the Renewal or Higher Level Teaching Certificate application in the Louisiana Educator Portal.
Requests for a higher level certificate must be verified and signed by
the employing Louisiana school system.
