All certification requests are submitted through the Louisiana Educator Portal (LEP).
To login to LEP and access certification applications, you will need a MyLa (my.la.gov) account. MyLa is also used to access other state resources. If you already have a MyLa account, just click Sign In at the top of the LEP home page and enter your MyLa username and password.
Creating a MyLa Account
Do not create a new account if you already have a MyLa user ID and password. If you cannot access a previously created account, please select Help on the MyLa home page to request assistance.
If you have not previously created a MyLa account, please follow these steps:
- Visit MyLa.
- Click “Read our Privacy Policy” to review the MyLa privacy policy and click Accept to accept it.
- Click Sign Up to create a new MyLa Account.
- Complete the required fields. Scroll down the page to answer the questions. Required fields are marked with an asterisk. Helpful links are available in some fields to provide more information.
- Create User ID and Password - User IDs must be at least eight (8) characters. Click on “Want help making a User ID?” to see more about what is required. You will use this user ID to log into all systems secured by EdLink Security. Use something unique but easy to remember. Keep your user ID and password secure. DO NOT share your password with anyone.
- Add your email. Individual applicants may use a personal email address or a school system address. A personal email may be preferred in the event your employment changes and you lose access to an email address from your previous school system.
- Click on Create Your Account.
- Confirm your email. You will receive a confirmation email. You must click the link in the confirmation email to activate your account. You will receive a confirmation screen when your email is confirmed.
Once your MyLa account has been created, click Sign In at the top of the LEP home page and enter your MyLa username and password.
Validating your Social Security Number (SSN)
When you have successfully logged in to LEP, My Educator Profile displays your identifying information. This information is often already verified for educators who are or have been employed in Louisiana public schools.
Public School Personnel: If your profile is not fully completed, including an SSN, please follow all steps in the K12P Account Creation guidance.
Individuals that are not/have not been employed in Louisiana public schools: You may be required to verify your SSN before an application can be submitted.
If Start New Certification Application is not available:
- On your My Educator Profile, select Enter SSN or Show the SSN to display what is entered. Type in your social security number and save the information or verify the number is correct.
- Click Select Validator next to Validate SSN.
- Verify the SSN you have entered is correct and upload a copy of your social security card in JPG or PDF format. Please ensure the file is not a large, high-resolution image file. Many phone cameras create images that are too large or in other formats that cannot be read when submitted.
- Select Request Validation.
The Certification Office will review the request for validation to ensure the SSN entered matches the card provided within 1-2 business days. Once the validation request has been approved, you will see Start New Certification Application in the upper right corner and in the left navigation menu the next time you login to LEP.
